HYM, The Life Story of a Famous Fox by Cyril Heber Percy
HYM, The Life Story of a Famous Fox
by Lt Col Cyril Heber Percy
Illustrated by Michael Lyne
1959
Lt. Col Cyril Heber Percy was joint amateur huntsman of the Cottesmore hunt from 1946-58 .
Hym was a real fox, he was huge and this is the story of his life.
Lt Col Heber Percy’s deep appreciation of the environment in which the fox lived and survived, which shines through, makes this a wonderful book for children and adults alike.
With a naturalist’s eye he documents the life of a wild fox in a gripping narrative of the challenges, the triumphs and tragedies, encountered by a dog fox reaching maturity, mating and siring litters of cubs.
This will delight and inform anyone who cares for the British countryside and its wildlife – not to mention all those who have hunted in Rutland.
It has a colour portrait of Hym by Artist Michael Lyne on the front cover and again inside of the frontispiece.
It also has a black and white photo of Hym’s mask, , mounted by Rowland Ward, the great taxidermist. Ward stated that Hym's was the largest mask he had ever preserved.
Beautifully illustrated throughout by Michael Lyne with 6 full page and 53 Line illustrations In-Text.
The jacket has some minor but has been kept in a clear cover for many years to protect it and the book is a lovely clean copy
“This is the best book ever written about hunting” said ex Master of the Cottesmore, and current Chairman of the Masters of Fox Hounds Association, Andrew Osborne M.F.H.
